Lolo’s Sari-sari Store is a New York Public Library Vibrant Voices Book Pick of 2024!

2024 has been such an amazing year for diverse books. It’s such an immense honor to learn that Lolo’s Sari-sari Store, written by me and illustrated by the amazing Filipino-American artist Christine Almeda, has been chosen as a part of the New York Public Library’s Vibrant Voices Titles of 2024.

According to the NYPL website, NYPL’s Vibrant Voices is “an annual book list that celebrates stories by and about Black people, Indigenous people, and people of color.

This list is designed to support educators and families with culturally responsive book recommendations that promote discussion, expand understanding, and celebrate diverse voices.”

I can’t tell you how many times I have walked by the New York Public Library, marveling at its grandeur and wishing so badly that one day, a book of mine could call this magical place home. To know that a book of mine has made its way here, and to process that beyond that, it has been chosen by its librarians and recommended for its merit is such a dream come true.

Please read more widely, and if you are so inclined, please check out my book and the many other wonderful books on this list. Explore the full list for kids and teens online!

You can buy Lolo’s Sari-Sari Store here, or if you are unable to do so, please consider requesting it at your local library. Even that does so much to help authors like me get our books out to more people.

If you’ve read the book already, please consider leaving a review on Amazon, Goodreads, and on Storygraph.

Thank you so much for reading!
